Where Palm Trees Grow
I just bought a 7.5 inch spotted gar for my 55 and I was wanting to know any experiences with them you guys have. Are they easy to keep? Will they eat krill? Will it eat any of my other fish? Any info?

honestly, you should have thoroughly researched that fish prior to purchasing it. well it will eat krill, but it gets way too large for a 55 gallon, and your tank is packed as it is. you can feed it cut up market shrimp or silversides too.

agree.

since that is behind us now, i would highly recommend using the search function on the forum to answer your questions as these topics have been thoroughly covered several times in past threads--

well acquiring a 150+gallon tank is a start... those things can break their backs if crammed into small spaces

To house it for life i would look for something 6X2X2 (180 gallons). An 18" inch wide tank would work as well for a while, but when the Gar is full grown i think it would appreciate 2 feet for the width. The length should definitely be at least 6 feet though.

180g is nice for life, but not required in most cases. a 120g wide (4x2x2) would house the average captive FL gar for life. these fish rarely get to 2' long in captivity if raised from YOY.--

With all due respect I think this thread is about Spotted gars not FL.
