A friend of mine got a 12 in. spotted gar for her husband, but after they put it in their tank they started losing fish. Anyway, they've got nowhere for it to go so they asked me if I could take it. My current setup is 300 gallon tank with four Golden Dorados, and a Jaguar cichlid. Would there be any issues adding this gar to my tank. BTW, I've recently had two expesive losses to a Shovelnose Catfish (which is currently crammed in a 55 gallon with two oscars and a green terror at my LFS) so I think it goes without saying that I do not want to lose any Dorados. Thanks for your time!

spotted gar... means its either a florida gar, or an alligator gar. gar go for silvery fish, but generally leave anything to big to eat alone. if its an alligator gar then all bets are off and anything housed with it is potential food, floridas are more laid back but im not sure its a good mix reguardless. a florida isnt going to liekly kill a fish if it cant eat it, but will shred fins and stress another fish if not seperated.

personally i wouldnt mix a gar with a jag, i think your asking for the gar to get mangled.

Thanks for the input....from what I understand it is Lepisosteus oculatus, which looks similar to the Florida gar (may be a hybrid).

It would all comedown to the size of your Dorados and Jaguar cichlid. The Spotted gar and the Jaguar cichlid might fight. All you can really do is wait and watch.
