So basiclly i just caught a 6" gar from my dock the other day and keeping it in a cooler changeing the water daily untill i can transfer it to a 125 gallon tank i have. the problem is i just dont know what water i should use to fill up the tank, river water or someother water? also how often should i change the water in the tank along with the preferable P.H levels and any other help tips i could use :)

side question: could i put like a 1 pound bass in the tank with the gar?

use regular dechlorinated water in the new tank. also, keep the fish in a smaller tank than a 125g and move it up as the fish grows. the 125g will be too big for it to effectively find food.

a 1 pound bass will easily eat a 6" gar, so this is not a good combo by any means.--

im probley going to sound stupied right now but you buy dechlorinated water in the jugs right? cus we have our own well water and its soft with no chemicals in it. ok so 55 gallon should be alright then? mabey when the sucka gets bigger i can put a small bass in there?

bass are never really advised to much. i have bought jugs of water to fill some of my small tanks. i also have used well water. it was nice not to have to use chemicals to use the water.

i always use well water, and i think the 125 will be fine, it is wild caught it had way more than 125 gallons every day of its life till you caught it, also you can dechlorinate by leaving the water for one day like in a jug i believe?

and i missed that bass thing, yeah the bass will probably kill it

say that ten times fast hah...........ill do a lil bit of both probley any specific water temp. or anything?

well it will do fine in many temps. i keep mine 80. i raise my gars all in my main tank. my suggestion though if you do use the 125 have no other fish in there. mine are in a 125 with only 3 gars and alot of feeders
