Hey guys I just got 2 new 5in. Spotted gar 5 days ago. One is acting fine but the other is having trouble swimming. He is bumping into the walls and wood. He is also swimming in circles and loops. This has been going on since he arrived. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Please take a recording of the behavior you're seeing and post it to youtube. Then share the link here so we can see what is going on.

Sounds like swim bladder and shock. Do as dieselhybrid has mentioned.

Hard to catch him when he actually comes out and swims, but these are a little of what he's doing. Hard to see but he's swimming on his side most of the time.

That's okay. I think you just need 5 posts for the permissions. So just make two more posts. Does the back of the fish have a kink or curve to it?

Just take the spaces out before the youtu.be parts and it should work.

No kink or curve to his back. He's been staying near the top next to the normal gar and they are almost indistinguishable other than the fact that this one sort of tilts to his side a little and looks like he works harder to stay upright (tail and find move more/faster.)

That doesn't look good my friend. Some sort of injury or lung or swimbladder disease I would guess.

I'm going to be honest, that looks like a death spiral. There may be nothing you can do. The fish will likely die soon.

Has it fed while in this condition? Has it been this way since you received it? I think some of the more experience Gar members will comment soon. Now that you have the posts, do us the favor and post those links again so they can view in the thumbnails in their browsers please.

Can try to lower the water level in another tank. Keep lights dim. Try Epsom salt 1tbsp per 5g and salt 1tsp per gallon. Don't think abx will help and it will likely not survive but see what some other members can offer.

Why is your water so foamy looking in the video? Just asking as that's what it looked like to me?
