spotted gar tank size

i hust got my spotted gar and i wonder what size my aquarium shuld be becus now i only got a 40 gallon tank but im gona get a bigger next week and i whant to know how big i shuld get?

as big of a tank as you can afford. go for at least 125 - 150. i hear they get big. that's a big leap, going from 40 to 150

If you don't want to keep buying tanks, a 125 would be okay for several years, or a 180 would be even better. You don't state how large he is now, but a 180, with its standard footprint of 6x2, would hold him quite well until he reaches two feet. After that, a pond might be the best choice. Are you sure he is spotted, and not a Florida? Max sizes are different for these guys. A pic might help.

he'll outgrow your 40g in 8 months, assuming he's around 6" at best
