How long will you be doing this?

Also is Spotted the only ones you got around there?

this will essentially be the last round...the experiment will be winding down over the next month, and we have some fish available. all are spotted gars, verified. in MI we have longnose gars and spotted gars, but i am only working with the latter species.

once the experiment itself is complete, we will be moving on to analyses and processing of the data.

thanks for your interest--

just a quick FYI on the spotted gars from the project:

1 - they will take non-live food very quickly. just converted one to taking frozen silversides from a feeding stick on the first try. others are expected to act similarly based on a few other individuals tested and overall behavior of the cohort.

2 - will likely have a few more available (all will be at a larger size than last time) so please let me know if anyone is interested. further details on the fish to follow soon--

How big are they now? Mine is 10-11" and looking nice. I'll have to get you some update pics this week...

they are all in maintenance feeding right now, as we get ready to move most of them into the second experiment. the largest fish are approx that size; at the official end of the first experiment, the largest MI fish was 25 cm and 45g.

we're hoping to keep them on unlimited ration for the second experiment as well, but that depends on our luck with draining a 0.6 acre pond tomorrow and getting enough fathead minnows (the same pond from which we got food for the first experiment, except now it's covered in 2" of ICE!)

looking forward to the updated pics!--

PS-- we have separated one out and are keeping it at home to powerfeed and look at accelerated growth, which is more pertinent for our hobbyist info than academic, but still should be interesting.

finally got around to taking a couple pics this evening...here's a quick shot of one of the fish we separated from the rest of the group.

Hey do you still have some spotted gars left? Are you able to ship to Seattle? If so how much would the shipping cost be and the U.S. Wildlife paper works? I'm from Vancouver, Canada and I'm disparate to get this gars. I can just drive down to Seattle and pick it up at the airport. Also do you have any bowfins, cuban gars or shortnose gars available?

as i have stated before, i don't have the time and resources to investigate all the costs associated with fish & wildlife paperwork, etc. you would be responsible for working that out on your end. also note that gars are illegal in the state of Washington, so that presents another issue (not sure what their policy is on fish just "passing through" the state).

i would like to help you out, but all the arrangements would have to be made by you and on your end. i only have the time to ship the fish to a given destination. thanks for your interest--
