hey guys, does anyone know anything about the spotted grouper? I was planning on putting him in a 75 gallon aquarium.

Let me redo my earlier post. What kind of spotted grouper. (the scientific name)
One "spotted grouper" gets up to 13 feet long while another "spotted grouper" only 40 cm.
So a scientific name would help a bunch.

:werd: common names SUCK!

Okay the common name is Epinephelus summana

You could probably keep it in a 75 but that would be almost the absolute minimum size I would go with since these guys get about a foot long. I don't think you would be able to keep any small fish and inverts in there with it since it would probably just eat it. It would probably be best in a species only tank.
As for diet just larger meaty food, so squid, shrimp, etc.

if you had a larger tank like a 150-180+ you could probably mix it with things like angels, puffers, hogs, larger tangs, etc

Most groupers do not get as large in a aquarium as they do in the wild, the spotted grouper will likely grow to 7-8 inches, along with better looking groupers, you might also want to consider the V-tail or the miniatus grouper, they have more colors.

I've found the opposite to be true about my fish... generally my fish end up on the large end of their wild counter parts. Though I also give them tons of room to grow, I generally house my fish in tanks 2-3x the "recomended" sizes... though I get that most people cant do that.
