i was wondering how a spotted grouper would do with triggerfish? i have been reading up on them and i was thinking of getting one. all the info on the i have found has a 12-15" "max size" and i was wondering if that was correct. this is the stock of the tankk right now and i will seperat out the smaller fish from the tank as needed. i have a 120gal availible when it gets larger.

stocklist

1x bluejaw triggerfish
1x pinktail triggerfish
1x picasso triggerfish
1x niger triggerfish
1x bicolor angel
2x clown fish
2x scooter blenny
1x 3 strip damsel
1x blue damsel

damsels and blennies will not be in with it for long. the grouper is 3"

Well. I just got back with the grouper all seems well. Slight flares form the angel but nothing bad.

It should be fine with the triggers, but eventually it will be able to eat even the bicolor angelfish.

If you are looking for tankmates to replace the damsels, clowns, blenny and bicolor angel with I would do the following:
1 Bird Wrasse (Gomphosus varius)
1 Immaculatus Puffer (Arothron immaculatus)
1 Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)

These fish, along with the triggers and grouper would make quite a fantastic display. Although it might seem a little crowded in a 120 gallon, with a good skimmer and plenty of large water changes I think you would be ok.

Cool I was thinking about getting a puffer or a moray to add to the big pred tank

Do panther groupers do well with them? Also what would an average growth rate be?

Panther groupers are really too big for a standard 120. Their growth rate is quite fast. I really like the v tail grouper and miniatus. My favorite is the polleni grouper which I fear may be too large too (and quite expensive)

i was thinking about doing a panther when i had a 180gal or more as the pred tank. i was also wondering what an average growth rate would be for the spotted grouper? i liked the miniatus and also the blue line grouper, but i wil see.

so far the grouper is doing great and taking pellets. no problems at all.

also my 120gal is 4'x2'x2'

I may pass on panther then. I'll try to get an update thread up on
my salt tank and one for the new tank build.
