Spotted Pike Characin won't eat anything else..

I got a Spotted Pike Characin or some LFS call them Colombian Gars. Can't get it to eat any but feeders. Has any body had any luck getting them to eat any thing else? like pellets, Crikets, etc...Its about 6" now. Feeders can be a hassle after a while..

Dunno about that particular species, but you can try straight starving him for 4-6 weeks, offering him nothing but the food you wish him to eat. It carries some risk of death, of course. But I'd do it if I were in your shoes; its always worked for me.

i think you can train them to eat meaty foods like shrimp.. my african odoe pike has been successfully trained to eat shrimp after about 3 days of straving

oh but remember to feed it full first before starting to starve it
