has anyone heard this used as a common name for a bichir species? I happened to be out of town today and stopped at fish store while I was out there. They had what was labeled as a "small spotted polypterus" and no one in the store could give me a scientific name or specific species. It was probably just over 2", gray, and spotted with black bars across its back. My first thought was "omg its a delhezi and its coming home with me", but not knowing for sure that it wasn't a weeksi or something thats going to require upgrading to a 6-foot tank gave me cold feet and I left (its gonna happen eventually, but $$$ and space won't permit it now).

I wish I had a pic for an ID, but my phone has no camera and I was running late for a show anyways. So basically does anyone know what a spotted polypterus is or at least have a picture of a 2-3" Delhezi for comparison.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Sounds like a Delhezi. How did the jaw looked?

honestly I couldn't really get a good look, he was so small and kept moving around. The headshape in general seemed more pointed than my senegal, but that may have been exageratted becuase he seemed to be very underfed and thin.

Well I think I answered my own question. I just found this pic of a juvie delhezi on google images and it looks to me to be a match...

Hopefully I can find the time tommorrow to get back out there. Might try and talk them down on the price though- $30 for a crazy thin 2" Del seems a bit nuts to me.

thats actually a fair price once you get away from senegals the prices go up-Anne

good to know, thanks  I knew a delhezi would set me back more, it just seems like a lot considering how skinny and underfed this particular one was- not a perfect example, you know?

I didn't have time to make it out there sunday and this week is packed, but I'll call this weekend and see if its still there :headbang2
