where should i locate the spary bar of my canister filter?
above or below the water line?
along the back or on the side of the tank?

could i run two of them on the side and have the intakes at the otherside to make a stream type current?

Howdy,

I'd say that's all personal preference if your tank is not too big and your filter not too weak. My 220 gal is operated by a 2080 Eheim with two intakes (one on each side) and one spray bar. My spray bar is located on the right side in an angle: It sprays diagonally to the front left. Also, it is submerged half, so that the water gets aerated a bit but not too much. If you have a CO2 system, you need to completely submerge the spray bar.

On my old 80 gal, I had an Eheim 2228, and the spray bar and intake were on the same side of the tank. This way, the water circulated around.

Honestly, if you have a canister that has a bit more power than required for your tank, it shouldn't make a difference.

Other thing to take into consideration is type of fish in tank. Some require more aeration, some decent currents, some need little water movement.Mine are in and out of water, and pointing up down and across depending on inhabitants and requirements.

Try putting the spray bar in the middle, and drill holes in different directions, works great for me
I like to get the best circulation. So i put mine on the back, same side as the intake. This way to water circulates across top of surface to front of tank, down front side, across the bottom and finally sucked back up by the intake tube. If u put spraybar on front panel, water flow will travel across top of surface and down back side of tank into intake tube. U don't get any flow across bottom of ur tank!!! I generally let the spraybar just skim surface it really does not make much of a difference. Too high u git noise and splash!!!

when i used my spray bars a had them running along the back and slightly submerged to aerate but also be quiet.
i removed them and just use the standard outlet now though

HarleyK...do you have any pics of your setup and the canister?

Howdy,

Unfortunately: no. I keep taking pictures with my regular camera, and they all turn out blurry. Time for a digital ... maybe Christmas
