Anyone use a spray bar? Just have a couple questions. I know it more evenly distributes the water, but does it slow down the flow from the pump. ie the pump is pushing 1800 gph, but with a spray bar would it be less b/c there's more resistance? It's like putting your thumb partially over the opening of a garden hose. pressure starts to build and the water coming out shoots further due to the pressure.

I believe the purpose of the spray bar is to provide surface agitation in the tank to increase oxygenation and gas exchange. Canister filters are a sealed system so there is no other place for the air/water interface to occur besides the surface of the tank. Because of this I would not run a canister filter without a spray bar unless you have some other way of exposing the water to the air like a HOB or a sump.
