Does the spray bar need to be above the water line? With my new xp3, I have it under the water, I couldn't get it to stay above, I might just be retarded.

Mine are just below the water line, then directed upward slightly to aggitate the water surface.

My planted tank's spray bar is under the water, and directed downwards. All my non planted tanks' spray bars are under the water, and directed on an upward angle.

Cool, thank you both. I already had it pointed upwards, so I guess I can just leave it alone.

I've used my spray bar in all kinds of positions in my tank. I eventually went with the jets though. It provides better surface agitation and current in my 125.

me too!

I found the spray bar was a little bit noiser too with surface agitation than the jets. If you're tank is long enough I'd use the jets. You could also mix it up and use 1 spray bar AND a jet (done that too). That way you can use the spray bar for a current to get the waste into the "air" for the filter to suck up and the jet for surface agitation.
