Hi guys,
I've had this thought in my head for a long time about using spray foam insulation to build / waterproof a big tank. I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this? What sorts of things should I look for in the msds sheets as far as toxicity? The spray foam I use is closed cell and very, very rigid once cured. I can apply it up to 5 inches thick at once. Ive seen "great stuff" foam marketed for use in building ponds.
Curious as to everyone's thoughts.

I wouldn't trust it for full on water proofing. The black pond foam is what I would use for submerged apps. It's really good for building backgrounds, however it doesn't stick to glass/silicone well. What I've done with vivariums is use eggcrate placed in silicone (blk ge 1) or siliconed window mesh to the background. Ive had it peel of glass and cured silicone. I've never built a fish tank with it, but I have a bunch of vivariums/paludariums under my belt though

My reasoning for asking about this is that I am a spray foam insulator by trade. I have a commercial spray machine and buy 55g barrels of the 2 part mix.

If you can coat it like a pool, sure, a lot of things are made like this, but would need a liner sorry to say.
If a really big tank, spray foam in the beams would add awesome structural support.

I’d still something like pond armor over it.

The yellow great stuff spray foam is prone to degradation from uv and water makes it worse.
