Spraypainting black metal stand

Can I spray paint a black metal stand so that the finish is nice and even? I don't want to it be all scratchy and rough, I'm looking to create a smooth finish.

What would the results look like?

To really answer that need to know how deep the scratches are...

I have a friend that does iron work,he uses a paint that covers alot of scratches.

Scratches of the black finish, they're not into the iro itself


I'm probrably over-reacting...
