I went to our local fish auction last Saturday. I converted my 55 gal to another african tank. I also set up a few 29 and 35 gal grow out African tanks.

My biggest score was some :nilly: F1 fronts "Mpimbwe" 6 of them, 1 died already. Grrrr

These other fish were 6 - 12 fish per bag. one inchers
Mertiaclima Zebra F1 (yellow chin)
Cynotilapia Mbamba F1
Cynotilapia Afra "white top likoma" F1
Psuedotropheus saulosi "taiwan Reef" F1
Labeotropheus fuelleborni "Chitende white belly" F1

The guy that breeds all these africans is going out of business and moving to CA. He only lives 30 miles from me now. No more africans at the upcoming auctions. He had 115 tanks in his basement. :headbang2

I went to his house yesterday to see the remnants of his operation. He's been tearing down over the past couple weeks. He's selling all his tanks and stock.
Last night I bought 2 35 gal tanks with lids, lights, heaters, filters (power and sponge) Plus a double stand for both to sit on. All for $50.00!!! Score!! :naughty:
He threw in for free two 5 gal buckets of natural gravel, 5 gal bucket of misc rocks/slate/caves. He also gave me a cherry zebra for free. I mentioned i had two males and two females and needed more females. Cool guy! He also gave me two bags of 1/2 to 1 inch mixed babies. I'm not even sure what all is in there. I'll email him today to get the names. I think there were 4 different species growing out in his 50 breeder. I'm sure I got some of each, he just scooped. :WHOA:

Oh yeah I bought 8 more of the fronts for $25.00

He has 2 135 gal tanks for sale. Last night he told me his freind was taking both. Bummer for me. Complete setup for $200.00 I thought this would be great for the Fronts.

He still has a few 75's and 50 breeders he's selling. I know he wants $55.00 for the breeder tanks, not sure on the 75's. I still have a few of those I still haven't built stands for. Someone should start a poll to see how long I talk about those stands instead of building them! LOL.

So, that's what I've been up to as of late.

Later,
Dave

Hey spyder. Yeah it is Steve (JNS) from point. I'm actually going there again today to pick up 4 35 gals and maybe 4 20 high tanks. I'm gonna start my own mini fish room. I currently have 13 tanks running. :headbang2

Hey those mbamba's rock. Do you have a good web site to look up detailed info on those? I checked cichlid forum but didn't see them listed like that. Want to make sure I'm checking out the exact correct species.

THanks,
Dave

For the most part, Cynotilapia all feed in the same manner, they filter plankton out of the water. Dominant males stay close to the rocks to protect a territory while females and sub-dominant males will feed in open water. The mbambas are one of the larger Cynotilapia species, males can reach around 4" and females will be about 3.5".
