Being the geek I am, and being overwhelmed with "hobbies", I'm constantly finding one hobby item that could be applied to the other. I just came across some driftwood that I about pooped when I saw the price. First of all, is spruce wood OK in aquaria?

I know shipping will make these prices be much higher when all said and done, but you gotta admit, it's pretty cheap. Here's the scoop.

more specifically this:

$13.99 for a 30" + piece of drift is pretty darn good if you ask me.

Spruce and other evergreens normally are not suitable due to the high amount of resin / sap in the wood, which incidentially also is often toxic to animals.
True, these might be dried, but why spend $13.99 on a risk? I would much rather have peace of mind, than a few loose dollar bills leftover.

Avoid evergreen softwoods, they contain turpentine-like resins that are toxic, and also rot quickly when wet.

Did you also notice what color the water is? They release a lot of tannins in the water.
It is marginally safer, but I still would not do it.
