Today i managed to find by sheer fluke, another Geo. sp. that was similar or the same as the one i already had. Now, i've been operating under the assumption that they are Surinamensis but there are a few who think they are Altifon or even something else. However, there seems to be a hightened level of agression between them. I know it is most likley due to the very recent addition and a dominance struggle but it begs the question; are they 2 chaps, 2 girls or a male and female. There are clear differences between the 2 but i couldn't say for sure if they are opposing sexes. so here they are;

the new one has much longer... fins and a deeper set body and has much more vibrant colours.

any help/advise is appreciated.

now thats really funny but good news. I wasn't expecting anyone to ID the original as a Surinamensis! But that also means i now have 3 different species in my tank which wasn't the original plan. I'm guessing the reason they are squabbling is more the fact that the Surinamensis is the more agressive species than a sex difference.

Cheers.

well i guess it's possible that which ever species it is, it's just a jerk. :grinyes:

He chases the Brasiliensis and even tries to have a go at my Tat's though they see him off generally.

Is gender discernible at this age/size?

well the original chap hasn't let up and is still really giving the new chap a hard time. I tried moving the central piece of decoration to change the scenary but that doesn't seem to have worked.

Any advice? I was always under the impression that despite Geo's being relatively territorial, they were still fairly social?
