Square Foot Question

What is the benefit of mehcanical filter with more filter square footage?

I mean -

If I have a filter that can filter to 20 microns, and it has 25 sq/ft of filter area.

Is it better than a filter that has a filter area of 10 sq/ft?

If they have both flow at 7000GPH - would this not mean that it does not matter whether it is filtered over 10sq/ft or 25sq/ft?

I could perhaps see it needing to be cleaned more, as there is less filtration space......

More square footage = you don't have to clean/change as often and......more square footage = more beneficial bacteria.

Would the bacteria found in a mechanical filter be all that significant?

With a bological filter in the set up, would I much care about the Bacteria found in my mechanical filter?
