squid for fish food? anyone?

I don't know how much of a difference there is between the bait kind and the supermarket. Although it does say directly on the bait kind not intended for human consumption. They took the effort to print it on the bag so that's good enough reason not to eat it.

I have had mixed results, even with fish of the same species. Some eat it, some don't, If you cut your own rinse it well as the ink is mildly toxic.

Most groceries targeting caucasian customers sell cleaned squid. It's the asian ones I've been to that have whole squid. It is just necessary to remove the ink sac and not the skin pigmentation.

This sounds about right, it was just that when I lived in Tacoma, Wa. I would catch my own by the bucketfull every fall, then freeze them.

I feed it but it is far from being a preferred meal..with fish and turtles...

I've used it with mixed results as well. All of my rays loved it after they realized it was food (I actually mixed it with shrimp and during the feeding frenzy they ate most of it). I've also had datnoids, tigrinus, gars, and pimas eat squid too.

Just a note...cutting it can be a pain. Use a razorblade or scissors.
