so i have a SRT from thailand iv had since he was like 2inches long when he was shipped here......hes like alomst 6inchs to 7 now and his head is growing in.

i had him in a tank with blue back ground and tan substrate and a plant, his color looked great and deep.

now i changed it to black substrate and background and he looks white and his pearls show more than his color.......he loooks liek crap.

what should i do, whats the best set up?lighting? etc

I'v allways had mine with black background and black sand and he looks fine. But then again, He's always been like that. He might look crazy awesome if I took him out.

How long has he been in it? He could just need some time to adapt.

usually in flowerhorn not sure about red texas, they show more color in a colorful background such as an all blue one or just a plain colorful one with designs. But it could also be that your RT need time to adjust as that is quite a big leap from colorful to dark.

hes been in there about 2 months.
before and after shot.

he only looks good in the sun......this coral light is over kill, makes him look white.

I see your concern he went from SRT to RT. Maybe you could try to put him back in an environment with more color.
