I had a pair of polleni's that spawned and afterward the male started beating the tar out of the female. He was to much of a beast and tried to fight everything including me so i sold him along with most of the fry.
I kept one which grew into a nice looking male who was the polar opposite of his dad, very chill and a great tank boss...except when it came to the female/his mom. They would get along for a few days and then he would go crazy and chase her until she hid. A few times he beat her up enough that i had to move her to a hospital tank. Eventually i gave her to my father in law who has her with some geos and rainbow fish and she is enjoying a well earned retirement.
So the question is.. has anybody on here ever had a stable mated pair of these guys? I know all cichlids can be rough on their mates but i have never seen the level of aggression/abuse as i have with paratilapia polleni.

I have always seen dominant males become intolerant of other males first- once the competition is dealt with, they will turn against the females- one way to sea with aggression is to raise several from juveniles and normally the dominant male will be somewhat kind to one or two females- it will still chase her but as long as she has access to a safe bidding are such as a pot it cave where the male can not fit, she will survive the aggression. Large males can be such beasts so it is normal behavior to be aggressive towards conspecifics.
