I’m starting a new project (build journal coming soon) that involves a rack with three 34g tanks stacked on top of each other. The tanks are all reef ready with corner overflows, and I was planning on having them all plumbed as one system, with the bottom tank serving as a sump but looking like a display.

I want the plumbing to look very sleek, and was thinking of having all the overflows from the top two tanks drain into a single drain line, which would drain to the bottom tank via the bulkhead in the bottom of the overflow box (essentially forming a “U” in the bottom of the drain line, going underneath the bottom tank and then back up through the bottom.)

Anyone see any problems with setting it up this way?

The drains are 1” bulkheads, and I was planning to run the whole system at <300gph so should be plenty of capacity left in the drains.

Planning the same thing. Using (4) 40g breeders, all drilled and dumping into a 75g fluidized bed of K1. Planned on valving everything so each tank can be isolated if need be, planning to use the set up as a breeding facility for smaller pleco species I'm growing out. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of trial and error getting water flow correct both in and out.
