Stainless steel in tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
stainless should be fine as long as it hasn't been treated with anyhing someone build a stainless steel Aquarium once that I read and it was fine but I have heard of them using chemicals on some scrubbers as a biocide. it they havent been then I can't see why they wouldn't work but I imagine they are alot more expensive than the plastic ones GL

I see this as a pointless endeavor, given the low cost and simplicity of nylon scrubbies. Furthermore, if I'm not mistaken, ss contains chromium which may inhibit bacterial growth...hence, this material may not be a suitable substrate chemically. Finally, ss can still undergo galvanic corrosion, particulalry if you add salt to your water.

If it is a high grade stainless steel that has been passivated I see no issues with it. However I agree with brianp due to the lesser cost of nylon scrubbies and lesser chance of any chemical reaction that may occur over time with the stainless steel, the nylon ones would be the way to go.
