Stainless steel ???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As long as it's a full stainless clamp it wont rust. Not all clamps are totally stainless. Most clamps from an automotive store have stainless bands with steel screws, will rust. You can find full stainless clamps at your LFS, Home Depot, or a marine store.

Their is a rumor out there that stainless steel will actually rust underwater. Idk if its true or not though. And i know for a fact stainless steel rusts in SW. Cuz ive tried it myself.

In SW the salt corrodes the stainless steel. It's different if you have it in FW.

I have a couple stainless clamps on the return lines from my CV500UV canister filter. I Had an accident once that resulted in almost 30 gallons of water on my floor. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Anyways, they're home depot clamps; been in my 40br tank for months now, and I have not had any problems.

I use something called a screwcumber to weight down the veggies I feed my tank and it's essentally a corkscrew made out of marine grade stainless steel. Been using them for years without any corrosion at all. That being said, there are different grades of SS and some may not hold up as long as others. This is especially true if it's only a SS coating that then would corrode if scratched.
