Andinoacara stalsbergi vs Andinoacara rivulatus

What are your opinions? One more attractive than the other? One more aggressive than the other? All input is welcome!

I like the stalsbergi cause of the shape and color. The rivulatus tends to look a bit deform as they mature IMO. Stalsbergi has a sexier shape. Regarding temperament I owned a few rivulatus and it varies most are not that aggressive but I had one that was just really nasty. I only had one rivulatus that came from an awesome buddy of mine. I believe he got it from Jeff. I had him on a 40 with some guppies and sword tail. So I didn't really get to see his temperament towards other cichlid. I lost my rivulatus not long ago. Didn't really get the chance to see him mature. So my vote goes to rivulatus.

Lester, Do you feel that the Stalsbergi is brighter/more colorful or you just like the color better?

IMO it's personal preference and some are going to like stalsbergi mainly because they're something different. The gold edge rivulatus were a sensation when they first appeared in the hobby and would be just as much so today if they had just recently entered the hobby as a new fish.

LFS I used to visit had a large display tank full of orange edged rivulatus about 20 years ago and it was quite a sight.

As far as aggression, tank raised rivulatus I've had have all been relatively docile, including toward each other-- that's my experience, fish temperaments can vary so it doesn't mean you can't get an aggressive tank raised rivulatus. Docile doesn't mean wimpy, ime not much intimidates them, but mine were always tolerant of other fish in the tank.

On the other hand I've had wild rivulatus and they were a different story, very aggressive, constantly wanted to fight each other and just about anything else in the tank, right from the start at an inch and a half. So, imo, when some have said staslbergi are the more aggressive species, they've probably not had wild rivulatus for comparison.
