I've began building my stand for my tank last night (6x3 foot floor print) .

I have some pictures of what we finished last night(nothings put together except the top and bottom peices) CIMG0532.JPG
Suggestiosn would be great or please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong as I'd rather know now..than later lol..
Sorry for the skattered photos..I don't know how to organize them on here when they upload lol

Thanks a bunch!
Kat

Hey...She's going to be glass...I'm partical to glass until I get a tank over 500 gallons lol:)

Also..is that a wrx I see in your user name?...as in wrx subaru??:)

It looks like a good start but it doesn't look like you will have much access into the stand through the front. I would think about screwing and gluing three 2x6's together for the front top horizontal cross member. This should allow you to get away with only two center upright beams in the front or even a single center beam made out of a doubled up 2x4. From what you are showing currently it looks like it would be very hard to get a sump in/out of the stand.

I like to put "Liquid Nails" on my joints before I screw them together. It adds bit of rigidity and keeps the water out.

With a glass tank all of the weight should be transferred to the stand around the perimeter of the stand. It seems like you have a lot of cross beams on the bottom... probably more than is needed. Since 2x4's are seldom straight they can cause high spots in the middle of the stand which can make it seem tipsy. I might consider doubling up on the boards making up the perimeter of the bottom and getting rid of some of the cross braces on the bottom.

Yeah I've been reading more into the glass aquarium last night..Thanks all:) nothing is put together except for the top and bottom peices so, that's an easy fix:)

and I just actually bought an STI:)...I'LL be sad to trade the wrx in:(haha

The pictures make it look like those 2x4's standing up are how the front/back will be laid out..they aren't attached..I was just standing them up right to show the height of the stand:)....The front is going to have 2-3 doors so I will be able to access/place all my pumps ect underneith. I actually want to double check if this tank is glass or acrylic(only thing I haven't thought of for some silly reason) I just have a feeling it's glass..haha...

We'll be working on the stand tonight so, hopefully I can update with a better picture layout for a better picture assessment..
Sorry for the confusion..I really appreciate the input
