Currently working on a stand for a 40b. Question is will this 1/2in plywood support a 1ish inch overhang?

I intend on placing this tank below my 55 and eventually 75 with the goal of the front glass being flush with the tank above.

I have included pictures of the setup I have on my 30 so you can get the picture I am trying to paint. The metal stand does a nice job of hiding my sloppy diy work this way. :headbang2I do have the option of doubling up but then I lose some of the discreteness. Why the 2in gap in the middle you ask? My scrap board was only 34in at the widest.

I'd recommend perpendicular supports to the 2x4s already in place.

Thanks!

At the moment its going to "straddle" a 55 gal stand so it will be about 6in deeper than that stand. I am going to add them down the road once it is place below my 90. I may add some end block in the mean time to help distribute the load. Appreciate the suggestion!

I would put down some plywood on the stand to distribute the weight evenly

Thewolfman beat me to it, that is indeed particle board and will become ruined if water gets to it. I know it's another expense to get real plywood but it will be more expensive to replace the carpet and tank if it fails because the particle board got wet and gave out.

Copy on the change of materials!

Absent minded mistake, had some scrap at work on a Friday and wanted to avoid the trip to Home Depot.

1in gap shouldn't be an issue then with the proper materials?

some red guard? Ya, get a sheet of plywood... $40 some of the box stores will rip it for you.... or could omit the plywood and get some 2x4’s for $8 ea

This may be the way to go, I have some on stand by already. Was just trying to maximize the gap between the top of the tank and the bottom of the stand above.

Partical board replaced! Didnt get a photo of the stand but here's the complete setup. The extra 2in allows me to easily work in the 40b under the 55.
