I got alot of good ideas from reading through these forums I thought I'd post my success (so far) of building my own tank stand. I stole the basic idea from here

http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/75g_stand/index.shtml

But changed a few things based on previous experience. Considering the last stand this tank was on was the one it came on (death by particle board) and that as of this morning there was still water in the tank, and not all over my floor I'm optimistic enough to try again for the rest of my tanks that are sitting in the shed and need to be setup and filled with fish :)

believe me I'm all for "borrowing" ideas... but how can you say that you tooke the idea from a stand that looks like that?

*picture linking isn't working*

And end up with a stand that looks like yours... looks like the only thing in common is the 4X4's LOL

Good job... I just don't get the connection to the other stand LOL

Yeah, it was pretty much the idea of how to notch the 4x4's that I took. I knew I didn't want anything sitting flat on the floor (I've already spilled several gallons of water). The cross bracing and all the bolts were mostly a condition from my Dad so that he would let me borrow his nice power tools, but as long as it holds I don't really care. My next decision I have to make is if I want to light the tank, and if so how I want to do it.

For a 75 Gallon this is what most around here would call OVERKILL... but you can never be to strong IMO

I'm alittle concerned with the sump sitting on the cross braces like that though... I would be putting some plywood over the whole shelf just so you don't have smaller points of contact which would lead to a leak in the future... it's better to have it make contact with the WHOLE bottom, But again... just My opinion :D

It would also look better if you cover the stand with plywood, and either paint it or stain it. Other than that, it looks good.
