Just wanting some opinions on the construction of this stand. I haven't wrapped it yet, not sure what I'm going to use yet to be honest. All it's is 2x4's just wanted to see what y'all thought, mainly to see if it looks sturdy enough. The corners are two 2x4's glued together then notched to allow the top and bottom to sit on it.

Plenty sturdy, unless you bump it. I'd put a diagonal 1x4 across the back to stiffen it up. Otherwise, if you bump it, it WILL sway. Bump it too hard and you may end up playing 52 fishy pickup! Also, I'd look into putting at least 1 more screw in each one of those 2x4's you've got running across the center. Those are shear connections, and they can fail in bad ways if you're not cautious. Other than that, fantastic craftsmanship! I wish my carpentry looked that clean!

When you skin it, you'll have plenty of rigidity, providing you use a thick enough skin sheet.
If, you opt for a thinner skin, I'd go for diagonal bracing like in the edited image. (the diagonal braces shown, are to go on the back frame work)

I'd have to agree. You can never have too much bracing, especially if you're going to cut large doors into the side of the stand. Even if the stand seems sturdy enough when you initially set it up, the wood can settle and warp over time, but it may not become noticeable until 6 months later. Better to overbuild than underbuild! :thumbsup:

Forgot to add;
When you skin the front, if you leave it all one piece, by just cutting out the door openings, you'll retain the skin strength...

If you piece it in, then the structure will be weaker...;)

I had my uncle help me build it who has been doing carpentry most of his life just never making fish tank stands. I'm pretty confident in it, just wanted to see some suggestions before I place my tank on it, which may be tonight! Thanks for all the good suggestions, because I had thought about adding more bracing on the back side of it just not sure what and where.
