when building a stand is there a difference when accounting for an acrylic or glass tank. are the load bearing areas different for acrylic and glass.
the reason i ask is because a friend is having a custom tank built. in the beginning he was getting an acrylic tank but the guy flaked and he had our lfs order him a glass tank. dimensions of tank i believe are 48x36x24 i could be wrong. its a poly tank. he was wondering if he needed to tear it down and start over. its a pedestal type stand. any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thank you

Acrylic tanks need to be supported on the entire bottom. Plastic framed glass tanks only need support around the perimeter. That's why you see store bought stands for glass tanks that support the tanks on the edges of the vertical members with an open space in the middle. If your stand has a solid flat top, it will work with either glass or acrylic, assuming it is properly constructed and sufficiently supported.

thats what we were thinking but figured it never hurts to get other opinions and advice. thanks
