Im looking at a used 54 gallon bowfont corner tank that is just about a perfect fit for me. Theres one thing about the tank that kind of bothers me, and thats the fact that the stand lets the tank overhang it by about an inch. Just looking at the setup gives me a nauseous vertigo feeling (I have a fear of tall objects toppling, Ive had nightmares about it my whole life.)

Heres a pic of what it looks like, you have to paste it into your browser:

Obviously, its a professional design and it shouldnt be a danger? Nonetheless, it looks unstable to me and I cant imagine relaxing in fron of it, it looks like its about to fall over.

Anyone have any thoughts or input on the matter?

it looks like a good design but it would make me nervous as well... I always like to actually have a lip on my stands just for some added security ... In this hobby you can put alot of money and time into our tanks and it only takes a split second to have to start over.....

Glad Im not the only one, its a shame because I really like the tank, and dont want to spend too much on another stand and am not able to build one. I just cant imagine enjoying a tank sitting on that stand.

I do not think that I would enjoy it either , I would always have that thought in the back of my mind.... and so would always be on edge and this hobby is about relaxxing and enjoying what nature has given us ... at least that is what fish kieeping does for me anyway.

we have enough stress and pressures in our regualr lives, hobbies are meant to be enjoyed.

I completely agree, even if I know its solid its a little unnerving.

However. I just found out that the tank doesnt overhang, as the top and bottom opf the stand are the same size as the tank. Its just the body of the stand thats recessed about a half inch to an inch.

So its not as unstable as I first thought, but it still looks a little off.

I guess its just going to be a pros/cons decision, the tank is a beauty and maybe I can tie the stand into some studs. The funny thing is that its actually a high end wood stand. Im still undecided at this point.

It's fine. These are sold in the big chain petstores and there are probably about 405983 of the identical tank and stand in homes across the country and I would estimate approximately 0.0% of them are spontaneously toppling. If you'll notice, there is a top and bottom flat surface attached to the main body of the stand. The top supports the whole tank, so the tank doesn't actually overhang as you stated. The flat base on the bottom extends past the cabinet, and appears to be just just as big, if not bigger, than the outline of the tank, making it more stable.

I had one almost identical to this one. It will be fine.

You are correct Bob, Im quite sure that the tank is stable at this point. I still have a problem with it simply because I perceive it as unstable and it triggers my vertigo a little. I realize I must sound like an absolute nutjob, but Ive had this fear my whole life and its gotten worse as Ive grown older. I think i might be able to manage it, its a great tank. It might actually make watching the tank more exciting, ha ha.

Thanks. If other parts of the deal work out, I might still get it. Any other tank its size takes up too much space in my small office, while this one fits perfectly in the small corner adjacent to my desk.
