I purchased my 125 used and have it all setup (besides water and fish). I have all the substrate and rocks placed already so it would be quite a pain to move the tank off the stand.

The guy said the stand was really sturdy and held the tank just fine, however seeing all these broken tanks or stands and people talking about it has got me kinda worried. This is my first tank over 75g and I dont want to stand to fall apart. If it matters, the tank is acrylic so the tank itself is quite a bit lighter.

My ? is, is there any way to strengthen the stand without have to take the tank off and disassemble the whole thing? If so how would you go about doing it? The easier the better.... I can supply pics if really needed, its pretty much a standard 125 stand but its a little older...

Thanks in advance for any help...:feedback:

i had the same question a few months ago, i was able to put more supports in the stand with water still in the tank. i just cut the 2x4s to exact size and screwed them in to place where the were needed. post a few pics of the stand frame so we can see if it needs any more support, and where to put it.

Not sure if these will help too much... The tank is at the house we are moving into, and I took the camera but forgot the memory card so I was only able to snap a few quick pics... that and the batteries were almost dead so I had to do it quick...

yea do what joey020283 said , just get some more wood and cut to correct size and screw it in to sturdy up the stand . i did it to one of my old stands that i heard squeeking one day and it lasted another couple of years with no problems .

Bump, anymore suggestions out there please?

Hard to tell just from pictures, but it's looks like there is a fair bit of actual solid timber holding things up. OK it's only pine, but to acutally deform those uprights will take a LOT of force. The centre of the stand seems to be supported OK by those solid planks, so I dont think the top will sag.

I assume the stand is rock solid now, if you push on it there is no rocking or creaking going on? If you can wobble the frame of the stand, then it needs bracing. If it wont move no matter how you lean on it then it should be OK.

If you are unsure, then you can allways reinforce it by screwing and gluing heavy ply to the inside of the cabinet. That not only helps with support, but prevents any wracking (folding up) of the cabinet.

Cheers

Ian

^^ Thank you for the great answer Ianab. Much appreciated.

From the looks of your photos the stand will hold the weight just fine. Just make sure everything is level before adding water. Besides your tank is acrylic so it won't crack like glass.
