Does anyones reds swim at all? Mine seem to stand still 95% of the time unless someone they dont know walks by or one of the other ones comes close enough to interact with. This normal?

unrelated.....but are all those filters on the 125 you have?!!!
Lol, yes. The Whisper 40i is just a filter i had an extra of, i would like to replace it with another stronger filter but i havent yet.

Think of it like an aligator. Moving burns calories and those can be hard to come by.
That really does make good since. Ive been wondering for a long time, but after watching them for so long, i just amused it was normal.

it probably depends on how big of a shoal you have. Mine also spend most of their day either chillin in their spot or swimming in the powerhead

Well there are 8 full size ones in my tank, they dont have 1 spot they swim in, for example one is at the top of the tank kind of swimming with the filters water stream stuff, rest of them are just idleing.

Excerpt from: Schleser, D.M. (2008). Piranhas: A complete pet owner's manual.

"The hunting activities of the larger predatory species apparently peak during the hours of dawn and dusk, with the midday being spent resting in sheltered areas.....At night piranhas have been observed resting quietly among plant roots and submerged logs and branches."(p.23)

Lazy maybe, but quite natural behavior....
