Stands?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmm, The second one looks more sturdy to mee. It would look nice also. Make sure you check it out before you buy it though.

Best of Luck, Michael.

Probably. Figure that water weighs around 8 pounds per gallon and subtrate may be even slightly heavier.

If you figure around 160 pounds for the tanks contents and around 40 pounds for the tank. If I were you I would lay a board on top of the TV stand and place a barbell with 200 pounds on top of it. Don't go hog wild shaking it all around, but gently nudge the barbell side to side and front to back. It the stand feels sturdy to you with the 200 pound barbell and you gentle movement of the weight on the stand, then you are good to go for a delicate aguarium.

The downside is that you could crush the TV stand and feel like a reel dummy, but it is better having dead weight crush the thing then a tank of fish which you would also lose in that case.

If you do not have the weights you can probably use you body weight to determine the stands strength. Just be careful not to break your backside!

iv kept 10g aquariums on particle board tv stands. its not a 20g but....

No way! If you read the bottom of both of these ads, it gives the maximum weight capacity.

The first is rated at a maximum of 80 pounds, the second is rated a maximum of 135 pounds. Neither is even going to be close.

You can get utility storage racks for well under $80 that will hold 1,500 pounds on each of five shelves that you could set up 5 20 gallon long tanks on!

indeed. 135 pound capacity will not cut it. the tank itself weighs 25 or 30 lbs. 20 gallons of water is going to be 160 (won't be a whole 20 gallons, but still way over weight capacity) and gravel is significantly denser/heavier than water (roughly 180 lbs. per cubic foot vs. about 60 for water) so you will be way over the recommended capacity for those stands

Probably, my 20g long is on a piece of junk I picked out of some dude's garbage, it holds fine.
