This fish has had this small pimple on his head for a little while, but with the research I performed, for the most part it seemed not to be something to worry about because it doesn't affect his behavior at all. He eats just fine, and behaves normally. But over the last week it has grown quite a bit and now is enormous. Any ideas on what this could be and what I can do about it?

Tank info:
Size - 120 gal 48"x24"x24"
Parameters - 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 20 Nitrate, about 7.6 pH use the API Test kit.
Freshwater.
The aquarium has been setup since 2008.
We have various african cichlids in the tank, moat are a yellow lab x redfin boreolis mix , or a red zebra, parents were red zebra x albino red zebra,, and chipokea x some blue fish I can't remeber that has a similar body shape to a chipokea. There are also some bristled nose plecos (Iknow we have 3, but I have seen babies from time to time, but there are too many hiding places to know for sure. Total number of fish is probably somewhere around 40. We have 1 of the original cichlids left, a yellow lab. We started keeping the cichlids in a 29, then moved them to an 80, then when we bought our house we moved them into the 120. The biggest ones are 3-4", they range in size from fry to 4". The fish in question was born in the tank. No fish were purchased to be put into this tank, they either came from the 80 gallon or were born in the tank.
The tank temperature is about 80F.
No plants, we tried plants in the 80 gallon but the fish played with they so they didn't last long.
I have a fluval 405 and cascade 1500 on the tank..
I have a 300W heater, currently unplugged since it gets mighty warm in the summer, an air pump, and a single 40W light.
They get about 10 hours of light a day.
The last water change was about a week ago. I change the water about every 3 months or when the nitrates get above 40, it usually takes 3 months for this to happen, if it hasn't happened in 3 months I'll change the water anyway.
I feed them New Life Spectrum cichlid pellets in the morning and Ocean Nutrition cichlid formula flakes in the evening.
I have not noticed any unusual behavior from any of the fish, just the strange growth, it looks like there is a similar growth starting on one of the lab mixes.
I have not tried any treatments yet.
