I just set up my first GSP tank and love these little guys. I have 2 in a 55. I was going to get just 1 but couldn't help myself when i picked them up. So far no real aggression and both are about 2.5 inches and in great shape. I have been giving them freshwater snails that I find growing in some of my tanks, raw shrimp, bloodworms and I have tried pellets but they have no interest in them. I'm going to buy some food for them today and was wondering what everyone is feeding there Puffers? I really don't want to use live fish but I quess if i have to I will. Any easy staple foods that I can give them on a daily basis?

They aren't piscivores, so no need for fish in their diet...

You can feed de-frosted - Mussels, Clams, Squid, Scallops, Bloodworms, Crays, Shrimp as their main diet and they should be more than happy...

Since thats what i feed my fahaka ontop of pellets...

I started them on Clams this weekend and they love them. I haven't had any luck getting them to take pellets but still hoping. They love bloodworms, Snails, raw shrimp, and now clams best. They eat alot but only certain things.

What kind of raw shrimp? Be careful with shrimp especially krill and brine, causes lockjaw.

Yeah, my puffer also has her days / months where she'll prefer one food over the other... which is fair enough...

As for the shrimp, i'm pretty sure Market Shrimp is fine... but yes, Krill and Brine should probably be avoided as it can cause lockjaw in certain puffers, i think porcs are one example of puffers you should avoid feeding krill to (from what i've read)...

No regular, staple food is good, since they need a varied diet. Don't forget Earthworms.

I wound up re-homing my adult GSPs--a 55g just wasn't big enough for 2.

I have been and only on a few occasions given them large raw market shrimp. I dropped one in the tank and both ate it until I removed it from the tank, They started getting really bloated so I didn't let them finsih it. Is this not a good idea?

Best not to overfeed. Only to a slightly rounded belly.
