Start Pbass on Pelletts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you can feed them pellets from the beginning but i believe if they are on live from a "young age" it is rather stressful to starve them at such a small size so alot of people wait till about the 4" mark before they start the starving process if its needed.

but i believe there isnt a problem with pellets or bloodworms if you can get them to eat them when they are small

i see how everyone wants to get there Pbass on pelletts after a while... so why not start the fish on pelletts?? i dont have a pbass yet but will in a month or 2 so just curious why they cant eat pellets from beginning?

If you could just "start" them on pellets, everybody would. The problem is they don't necessarily associate pellets with food. In most cases, you have to train them! I did this by first giving them bloodworms, which they readily accept. Then slowly mashing in pellets with the worms, adding a bit more each day. This gets them used to the flavor of pellets. Then after 2-3 weeks of this, they should start accepting pellets. I just finished pellet training my jar and 4 monos this way and had to train my kelberis a few months ago.

You can try but some will never eat commercial food. They will only eat live. Matter of fact they have been known to starve themselves to death if not given live food.

i put pellets in with my 3"ish pbass, and he doesn't even seem to acknowlage it..i'm gonna wait till he gets about 5", and then begin the starving method..

Does he eat bloodworms? If so mash a few pellets in with them. Gradually using more and more pellets. This will get them used to the flavor. I've used this method to train my kelberi, my monos, my jardini, and an ocell that I sold.

i starting training mines when they were about 1 1/2" first i would feed it bloodworms then drop in feeders one by one then after 1 feeder some dry food. When you drop feeders one by one they hit it quickly and its good training so they hit whatever drops in like i can feed them carnivore pellets and then switch it up to dry shrimp. Feeders are now a snack not their main meal
