ok so I started my 40g salt FOWLER about 1mo 1/2 ago
but ive had about 5lbs of live sand and 1lb of fuji live rock from my favorite LFS

I dont own a saltwater test kit yet just cause im cycling and I didnt think I would need to test for at least another month or 2 till I add the rest of my rocks

the whole time ive had my tank, ive now have crystal clear water. small WC here and there to give more bacteria culturing time. 2 decaying cereth snails and some crushed nori for bacteria again

temp is at 76degF
sal. 1.024

adding more fuji and tonga and some Crushed Coral within 2 weeks.

so my question is why havent I gotten any algae growth?
I have small lighting at night but I leave my blinds open directly in hopes I get some growth.

Whats wrong?

A test kit would be helpful. I suggest you make it your next purchase.

It's likely due to the tank and live rock ratio. Two decaying snails in a 40 gallon also won't cause much to cloud up a tank or cause an algae outbreak. Ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, phosphates also won't cause much cloudiness. Give it some time for the algae cycle to complete.

Will do both! Thank you! :D

another question would be is it worth buying those supplements with the bacteria inside the bottles such as stress zyme worth purchasing? or since im willing to wait longer worth be ok?

as long as you are willing to wait longer and you purchase your stock slowly one at a time with 2weeks to a month between adding fish you wouldnt need any of those supplements keep in mind i am only saying this assuming you will have the correct amount of live rock in for your tank

the correct amount for any saltwater community would be 1lb/1gal for tank size.
So if this is true it would mean I need about 40lbs for my 40gal right?

at this moment I just added another 2lbs of live rock again from the same LFS
im slowly building!!! :D

i dont know what they charge for rock in your neck of the woods but at our local petco they have a hell of a deal compared to what i have seen anywhere else. any of there large live rock pieces that are labeled as large which are all roughly 10 lbs are 24.99. this would be an easy way to get your 40 lbs of live rock in your tank without breaking the bank or taking forever getting 3 lbs at a time.

both of my LFS's that have actually healthy saltwater selection chargets $7 a pound of live rock :( and the other LFS charge $4 a pound but are about 30mins away and their saltwater selection sucks. like GBTnems are just laying on the floor dying status.

So update. its been a week now and i dumped a bunch of food in the tank. it was a fishless cycle method saw in one of the beginner cycle threads. and it was a method I havent heard of before so I tried it. and I got really really murky waters 3 days after and lasted for 4 days and now its starting to clear up.

Murky water is a sign of a bacterial bloom right?
if this is true this means im about halfway done cycling right? about to get a test kit soon. Just waiting till school is over and I find some more money

my tank is 99% cycled and it never got cloudy except when i added the sand...i used the prawn method
