i am thinking of getting a tarantula. i have read a bit and seen some good choices and wanna get some feed back from the people here:idea:

Rose-Hairs Tarantulas- i heard they are slow but easy and can be boring at times.:uhoh:
read the cinnamon is also mellow.:smurf

so lets hear what you guys think about a good starter. i have had many weird and wonderful pets in my life including small antelope raised from babies, monkeys raised from babies, a mongoose, birds, dogs, fish chameleons and lizards. so not new to looking after animals but not looking for a dainty sensitive tarantula.

What's your plan on your Tarantulas? Will it be strictly a display pet or will you be wanting to handle it once in awhile? Will you be ordering them online or do you have a source locally? New World tarantulas are usually less aggressive/defensive than Old World Ts. Only thing is NW Ts flick uricating hairs which can be quite itchy/irritating. I would say some Ts are kinda like fishes, everyone has it's own personalities so you never really know what you might get.

Can't help much as I'm still new to it. I only got my first Tarantulas a few months ago and let me tell you they're as addicting as fish keeping, I now have 4 different species:grinno: . I bought one of my brother a Rose hair for Christmas and he's having a great time keeping/feeding it.

Grammostola and Brachypelma groups are usually pretty good starter Ts.

here's list of my Ts:

0.1.0 Eupalaestrus campestratus

0.0.1 Grammostola Pulchra

0.0.1 Grammostola rosea

0.0.1 Lasiodora Parahybana

So far I have only handled the Grammostola Pulchra(my favorite) and Grammostola rosea. The Eupalaestrus campestratus is just too fast, it can move from one side of the enclosure to the other in a blink of an eye:WHOA: . I have heard of Ts being fast but never knew they were that fast, I'm telling it was a blur, one sec is was there the next it was gone:ROFL:

Rosehairs are cool.

They are boring when they are still small.

But if you can find an adult one, you get to feed it baby mice aka Pinkeys.

My suggestions would be the rose-hair, curly-hairs, pink-toes, and red-legs (red-knees....possibly the same thing?). MadaboutCichlids may in fact have mentioned these already by their taxonomic names; I'm not up on tarantulas enough to know, and I'm too lazy to find out.

Rose hairs are generally the best for beginners; usually not to aggressive and in my experience their uricating hairs are mild. They are also very cheap to buy and easy to take care of.

Red legs and Red knees are different species. B. emilia (leg) B. smithi (knee)

there are 1 0r 2 shops here that sell them. and about 800nt if i remember correctly.

i am going to the pet shop on friday night to see which Ts they have. if they have rose hairs i think i might get one of those. I am looking into setting up a whole cage for one with wood plants ,small water section and a little cave i will construct.
