So I just started the change over to making a planted tank. 5ft by 3 ft footprint. I have anubias, Java fern, watersprite, some amazon swords and melon swords. All of which are temporarily planted until I get my other order of different plants. I had an ich outbreak a while back and tried to treat it with ich attack because of plants. Now today I see some spots on my green terror. No other fish show signs. But I dont want to risk it. I want to treat the tank with something more powerful this time around to be sure. I don't want to plant everything only to have to retreat. Since I am going to be taking everything out to rescape it my question is will keeping the plants in Rubbermaid tubs hurt them at all if I keep some lights on them. For the rooted plants should I plant them in something or could I leave them weighed down in open water? They will be in tubs for as long as treatment takes for the ich.

Or is there a quicker better alternative? The ich attack doesn't seem to work fast enough. I want to try to do a salt/rid ich combo if its okay to leave the plants out for a while. And of course water change the salt out before replanting

High temp and salt are a better option. The plants you have will be fine in a tub of water for many days. Don't worry about rooting the plants, just keep them wet.

Agreed.

What temp do you keep your tank at? Ich loves to attack fish when the temp gets too cold. If your house gets very cold at night, your aquarium heater may not be able to keep up. Check your thermometer in the early morning to see if the night time temp is dropping too much.
