Hey all, HELP! im a Newb to saltwater, would like to start a 120 gallon predator fish only tank. so far i got the tank and a fx5 fluval canister filter, heater, air pump.. i am planning on a getting a skimmer, power head pump, light, salt, live sand and live rock, and then the fish. any suggestions on a skimmer? n predators? i would like to have 1- 3 Volitan Lionfish and Black Banded Shark, i know black banded shark needs atleast 180 gallon tank but would the 120 gallon work anyway? what other fish's would you suggest with the the lion and maybe the shark? open to any suggestions, advice, comments...

thank you in advance...

thank you in advance...

rabbitfish/foxfaces, tangs, butterflys, smaller eels, groupers, etc

Idk lil small for groupers they get hudge but yes eels trigger fish tangs triggers wld be rlly aggressive

for the skimmer I would get a coralife 125 and no shark they'll be really stressed unless you have at least a 300 gallon tank. No sharks though at least until you get a 300 gallon :) but as suggested above tangs, rabbitfish, etc... will be good in a FOWLR tank

vtail- 12"
miniatus- 16"
blue line- 12"
tobacco bass 8"

all are pretty common, not talking about loutis and bumblebees

I have seen miniatus get bigger than that too. They pretty much will kill everything once they get bigger.
i have a miniatus and its a big baby. hes round 8 to 10 inches.. you can add puffers, tangs, triggerfish, angelfish, anglerfish, and all the smallerfish like clowns, anthias and so on as long as you add your small fish and inverts first..

you sure that it's a miniatus? there's like 5-6 different grouper that look a hella like minis but get "normal" grouper size (~20")

look at a compatibility chart, then start with the smallest one first. i started with 120 to ,but had to go to a 180 quick.still need to go bigger, but fear of a divorce is stopping me.also a shark is going grow to fast for a 120 .get the best skimmer u can .good luck
