I set up my 40 gallon tank a week ago and began cycling right away and have been the whole time. The tank is ready and I believe that I am ready to begin adding fish. I was hoping to have a few Cichlids as well as Loaches and Eels in my tank. What fish are some good and interesting starter fish that will work well with those fish? Thank you!

Some good loaches would be kuhli loaches, yoyo loaches, skunk loachs, hilstream loaches, and zebra loaches. Only two common eels species are good for a 40 gallon , peacock and zig zag. As far as common small cichlids that will work in a 40 gallon with loaches and an eel, you have kribensis and that's about all I know.
