need as much info as i can get

i have read that it is easier to keep a larger salt tank. it is difficult to maintain the chemistry in smaller ones. but i dont have one so i am no expert :)

The larger the tank is the easier it is to keep it healthy. However, it will cost a LOT more. You must be more precise with small tanks. I would personally start at least with a 40 gallon. What is needed, Live rock (approximately 1lb/gallon). A good protein skimmer, heater, hydrometer, and salt. Filter is not really needed, but a powerhead will help with movement. If you do want to use a filter, I would only use live rock rubble. Are you planning on having a fish only tank, or reef tank? Intense lighting is pretty standard with both types, although fish only can have just a T12 bulb on top. Key thing with starting a saltwater tank is to be VERY patient.

You would be a lot better off going bigger. Someone said 40, if you have the space, but go as big as you can afford.

small salt tanks are extremely difficult to keep healthy ! Unless your going with a Nano Cube type system ... i strongly recommend that if you can not afford a Large Saltwater tank
they don't waste your time or money and more importantly the life of the fish ..

ps if your keeping youe betta in one for them small petsmart bowls it's no wonder he don't like you
