im thinking of turning my 20 gallon into a salwater tank.. and i need help on how to do this. and the requirments and the things needed

First one would be teh moneys. :nilly:

I turned my 20 long into SW and Ill give you a run down of what Ive bought so far...

Cannister filter - $180
2 power heads - $30
Lighting - $160
Aragonite - $35
Live Rock - $150
Amm, trite, trate, pH test kit - $40
Ca, Alk, phos test kit - $40

+ SW and RO water
containers to cart water
media for filters (I only run pond matrix in my cannister)
heater
mag float
thermometer

The list is endless!

Then theres other stuff like purigen and things that are personal preference whether or not you buy. So yeah, be prepared to spend, and then some. My budget was $300 AUD, well Ive already gone way passed that.

My tank is almost cycled, and I must say it is EXTREMELY exciting and DEFINATELY worth the time and money.

Don't take only my opinion but, cause all the "pro" SW people on here will say not to use a cannister and will recommend a skimmer and maybe something else I have forgotten.

i can't begin to say how valuable skimmers are, they truly save you a LOT of work. and canisters can be successful, if one maintains equipment well.
darky pretty much got it all, but you want to make sure your powerheads produce enough flow. i'd go with about 20 times total water turnover, more if you get some coral down the road.

on my 7ft marine tank i have 2 large cannisters filled with alfagrog a large skimmer and a uv and 20 kilo of live rock which i am adding to,so theres nothing fancy about my set up.
