well im going to start off small with a 20 gallon tank. i am not going to do plants just fish if i just do fish what lighting do i need? can u use any filter for salt water?what is the best to use sand rocks ect.any other help is welcomed.thanks

im doin the same thing, its called FO or fish only. from what i have read all you need is a saltwater filter, such as a biowheel, regular lighting, live sand, and a powerhead.
a little in tank water pump to circulate water...
if this is going to be a plants and coral free tank a regular aquairum light will work just fine, but if you want some extra growth from the algea and such on the live rock (coralline algea, etc) then a small power compact lgith or T5 (can be had form petsmart for about $80) would do nicely. the brighter light also looks better in my opinion
