starting an fx5

I just bought a used fx5 and have never had one always used xps , how do you start them up do they self prime or what ? any help would be cool I promise im not stupid just never had one and dont want to burn it up right away

Yeah thanks as well. I am looking at this filter for our new tank but after watching this I don't think it would work. We are wanting to fill a 150 gallon 2' tall tank about 50%-75% of the way for turtles. But with the "your water level must be at least 7.8" from the edge of the tank", I'm not sure if this will work.
