Ok to start off with I just lost my 10yr old Bleekerii:cry:. I am not really wanting to break the tank down and have wanted a aero for some time just did not have the room for another tank already have 4 tanks up and running salt and fresh.

So here I am with an empty 125 gal 6ft long tank. I know the tank is not large enough for a full grown aero but I would like to know approx how long I can healthfully keep one in the 125. There are no other fish in the tank other than a 8" pleco and about 20 guppies my Bleekerii would not eat. (which I will prob take out and feed to my malawie cich).

I would like to know what are the best water perimeters for a healthy aero.

I know they are jumpers and I have tops and a canopy for the tank.

What kind of substrate and do they like little flow, med or high?

What do they eat best?

Like I said I am just starting my Research I have not owened a Aero before but I have had lots of tanks many different species of Cichlids and other's

Thanks for the Help

Josh

Arowana, or Aro for short. What kind of aro are you thinking of getting?

This is what i have and do for my 11" RTG aro...

Tank:
I have a 75 gallon dimension 48" x 20" x 24" I believe my RTG would last about a year or so in this tank cause my RTG would probably be 24inches(low assumption, 1 inch a month growth rate). And being 24" in length it would have trouble making turns inside a tank thats only 20" in width. So when the time comes I'm going to upgrade probably to a 180g or 200g tank with dimensions most likely 72" x 36" x 24".

Water:
I just do 1 x 25-30%wc/week changes adding only a little salt once in a while. I net out debris inside tank every day or when i see.

Food:
My RTG gets fed pellets, silverslides, krill, and its favorite Meal Worms! My RTG can probably chow down 20 worms if I ever throw that many in there at once. But With my mealworms I feed the worms carrots for carotene (enhances color) so the nutrients will transfer to my RTG.

Hope this helps your research....

Other things I have in the tank:

Power Pump- My RTG seems to love swimming against the current.
Bubble Disk- Some people say aros dont like bubbles? Well my RTG loves to swim over bubble disk.

You'll need the 180 way before it's 24" long. Do you really think an :)aro would be happy in a tank only twice it's length

Went to a LFS today and saw this 20" RTG I asked the owner about the RTG and he later told me that the owner had issues with his 3foot tank and so brought the RTG for safe keep till the leak is patched up in the 3 footer.

haha... I think MY RTG is fine till 20 or 22 if I really push it 23 to 24 but I'm going to stretch it out until then. Upgrading would probably cost me $2k? I've got a box labled "Fish Fund" :) gonna throw in all my change everyday and see what I have at the end of the year :D

Arowana, all species, need to be kept in a tank that has a length at least 3x the aro's length and a width/depth at least equal to the aro's length.

A 4 foot tank is only good for a 16"er, maybe stretch to a 18" aro.

Thanks for the replys. Yes I am in texas and I am probably just going to go with a silver.

My tank set up right now is a 6ft long 125 with small gravel substrate. For filtration I have 2 aqua clear 110's that are hooked up to an undergravel system (to lazy to take the under gravel out.) For flow I have 3 maxi jet 12's and one korila 4.

do you think I will need a better filtration setup? The tank has been established for 8 years but was moved about 1 year ago.

how many fish will you be having in your 125 gallon? If its just the silver its def. good enough. I have the Aquaclear 110's too they are amazing filters :)

The only thing I am planning on having in the tank will be the aro and some type of catfish like a synodontis or something no bigger then 8"
