Starting Over... help me choose

As you all know I recently got female festae infected with lympho and she came in contact with my Umbee, and then the Umbee came in contact with the Salvini pair so I have to assume they're all sick. I don't have the heart to euthanize all of em so I decided to just let em live in the pond by themselves for as long as they last. I don't even have to feed em much cuz there's all kinds of organisms living in there from breeding shrimps and crayfish to guppies, snails, dragonfly nymphs, and all kinds of weird insects/crustaceans I had never seen in my life lol

Now for the 150 tank I'm gonna wait for an adult festae pair that will be coming sooner or later.

For the 5' 120 I haven't decided what to get. I want an owner responsive fish that I haven't kept before, with attitude and great looks. Oh and preferably something that grows at least moderately fast.

So far I really like Grammodes and Istlanum, especially Istlanum. I also like Freddy, loisellei and rtm to a lesser extent. Datnoids look interesting too. Of all of these, which one is less skittish with the most personality? Which one is the most agressive? And if you own one, can you post a few pics.
 
Istlanum has the most personality IMO and grows faster than a grammodes. My vote would be Istlanum. I created a thread yesterday with istlanum and grammodes pics under media lounge.
 
have you had any amphilophus?there great personality,many to choose from.i have a trimac now,colors are great,he is always moving

Nice! Which variant is better Green or Red? Any other differences besides color?
 
I love the look of the Grammodes, but they grow sooo slow and the ones I have had are very skittish. Istlanum have a great personality and grow pretty quick.
 
I really like the way Istlanum look and since you guys told me they also have great personality and grow faster than Grammodes, I'm sold!

Getting a group of eight 'Red' @ 1.5" right now :D Excited!
 
Speaking about the Grammodes. They are very aggressive. But they can be shy. They are not very fast growers.
 
Off the Cichlid topic, Datnoids work great, But they grow slow and can become 12"+ in a healthy environment, I would prefer 1-2 of those in a 120 but that's just my personal preference. Dats are full of personality but honestly it's just preference.
