hello all,

i have not not been on here in a while. a have an empty 55 gallon tank with noithng in it except play sand and a filter and a heater. i have never tried live plants before. i want to go back to a community tank or semi community tank with barbs or cory cats, nothing predatory like. i heard that the little seed that walmart sells are nice. what are some ideas on stocking any suggestions are welcome even if they are not community fish. i might even go brackish. please amy siggestions would be great!

55g setup, community, non-predator------>wimp...j/k:).........a lone 55g that is not meant to be a sump or growout for feeders or fry only means a planted tank-to-be.........Leave the sand as a substarte beacause it really looks clean with plants........What always comes to mind when thinking plants and non-predators is the plant Vallisneria........These plants are long and stringy.....They are also located in the South American region where the idealistic community fish come from.......The fish that come to mind are two extreme types...When I say extreme, Imean two very different types of tetra.........The first is the Cardinal Tetra..Buy three dozen of these fish and grow what plants fancy your mind.......Seeing a large school of these colorful darts is a wonder under some good bright lighting........The other type of community setup would be the Exodon setup......Get two dozen to safely fill your 55g..........These eat meat like a pack of piranha.........As far as filtration goeas, it is near to simple for these small fish........One Aqua Clear 101 and an internal filter, or powerhead, would be just fine........Remember to do 50% water changes every week..........Take some pictures and post them up.........

A community of Lake Victorian Cichlids!

These are obviously not my pics.

I have a 55gal and I'm in the process of a Lake Malawi Cichlid tank. Right now I have two Blue Kenyi's, and will be getting 2 Yellow labs today. I also have two plecos in the tank. When I have the tank complete I'll prob. have 5 kenyis, 5-6 labs, and a couple demisonis. If you want a cool colorful tank, i'd go with a cichlid community.

I'd go for a west african type feel with Pelvicachromis, Steatocranus, and maybe some congo tetras... and then afterwards I'd get some clown loaches and Otocinclus as well as the cory cats

hmmi like to have a school of cory cats and a achool of congo tetras, what about fish who dont school, like gouramis ?
